Braves, INF Gio Urshela agree to contract

The Braves and infielder Gio Urshela made a deal on Tuesday, with Atlanta signing him to a contract to replace injured third baseman Austin Riley.
Riley was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Monday. He is expected to be out six to eight weeks with a fractured right hand.
To make room for Urshela on the 40-man roster, the Braves transferred left-hander A.J. Minter to the 60-day injured list.
The Detroit Tigers released Urshela, 32, on Sunday after he hit .243 with five home runs and 37 RBIs over 92 games in his first season with the club.
Urshela has a .273 average and .730 OPS with Cleveland (2015, 2017), the Toronto Blue Jays (2018), New York Yankees (2019-21), Minnesota Twins (2022), Los Angeles Angels (2023) and Tigers.
The Braves sit seven games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East and holding the third NL wild-card spot, 1.5 games up on the New York Mets.
The Braves and Phillies open a crucial three-game home series on Tuesday.
